Statistically most women wear 20% of their clothes 80% of the time. That means there are lots of treasures and perhaps forgotten clothes lurking in the back of your wardrobe. Before you go and buy anything new to add to your already full closet - items that you most likely will not wear, why not shop from your own closet first?
You might discover (well) hidden treasures that can end up saving you a lot of money. It does take time and patience and can either be done with someone who will give you honest and constructive feedback or solo if you prefer - just make sure you set aside enough time and make it a fun experience - play dress up, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you find lurking in the back of your closet. It might even be a brand new item you have never worn or forgotten about! An inexpensive way to shake up your style and closet...
Go through all your clothes. Do a complete closet edit, take everything out and start trying it all on, get rid of what no longer fit you and doesn't suit your lifestyle or personality. Try and do it without emotional attachment, thinking you might wear it someday or when you've lost weight or saving it for a special occasion or whatever other excuse you are trying to convince yourself with. Don’t fool yourself. That special occasion is right now...
Once you are left with only the items that you absolutely love, that fit you perfectly, without having to make any alterations or mending (let’s be honest - that never happens either) then you can start playing around with outfits and style combinations from your existing wardrobe. You will rediscover items you forgot you had and it will feel like you've got a whole new closet filled with fabulous items and outfit options.
Clothes take up valuable space in your closet. Don’t buy anything new until you have shopped your own closet and put together at least 3 new outfits using your existing items. Play around with different style options, textures and colours. Once you have an outfit combination you love, take photographs and save it in a special folder for future reference. Create a style inspiration board on Pinterest, page through magazines or social media for inspiration. The sky's the limit and imagination is key to create a SIMPLY STYLISH look...
